Birds at Rectory Farm

Our passion for birds is evident on the farm, where over the past twenty years we have enhanced the environment to encourage more birds and wildlife.  We are a member of the RSPB Volunteer and Farmer Alliance Project through Wild Bird Feedwhich two bird surveys have been conducted in 2004 and 2008.  These surveys have shown a tremendous increase in both the numbers and species of birds found on the farm.  The study identified an extensive variety of birds, including sky larks, red kites and house sparrows.  We have also seen a large increase in the brown hare population.  In addition to the surveys, in February 2008 our local bird watching group constructed over twenty bird boxes in spinneys around the farm, in order to provide nesting sites for our farmland birds.

RSPB Survey Report for Rectory Farm by the RSPB Volunteer & Farmer Alliance.  The list of species was recorded by RSPB volunteer Andy Stafford during visits in May 2008, who was full of praise for our environmental work on the farm which is attracting increasing numbers of wild birds.  The list provides a good indication of the range of species present, but a few species may have been missed due to chance or because they are hard to see.
